Remembrance Taking us Forward

The world is on fire. The Syrian war caused the biggest displacement of people since the WW2. I am an artist that wants to do something with the current situation. I have been involved in several projects to address the current refugee situation. Next week I am organizing an international youth camp in my home city Kikinda in Serbia, Together with Narviksenteret and National Museum in Kikinda. I am hopping to use my experience and knowledge and different artistic medias like video, photography, performance and games to work with conflict and war in a new and creative way. There is a strong connection between two cities, Narvik in Norway and Kikinda in Serbia. This connection was a symbol of peace and love after the WW2, and a reminder that more then 4500 Yugoslav people were sent to Norway in Concentration war camps. Forty Five of them were from Kikinda. Almost all of the prisoners died in a most brutal way, working in extreme winter condition without food and clothes, being killed just for fun. This massacre should never be forgotten. My goal is to recreate some of the scenes from the Beisfjord camp in Narvik where the Yugoslav prisoners were situated.  I strongly believe that we need to learn from the history to address the current Syrian war, terror attacks and  growing tension between east and west.. The rise of extreme nationalism in Nazi Germany caused the most widespread war in history involving more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. This was the most destructive war in all of history. It's exact cost in human lives is unknown, but casualties in World War II may have totaled 50 million service personnel and civilians killed.




Working with youth is maybe the only way to protect the unknown future. The new generations have to learn from history. I hope this camp will have a wider effect and that participants will take with them a new understanding and tolerance for a better tomorrow.
27 participants from 4 different countries. Norway, Serbia, Poland and France will take part in the project.

Dumpster Santa Claus!

Christmas in Norway is a special time of the year. People are buying presents to their families, friends and themselves. I don´t have nothing against the presents but when people are spending several thousands $  then it´s becoming too much. Some are even taking loans to catch up with their sick Xmas desires. Many children are having problems with finding what they want for xmas since they already have everything. Some countries are having just too good economies.

I decided to become a Santa Claus this year and help refugees in my city. I don´t have so much money, actually I am broke since I payed off my entire student loan today but I have a good plan. Here in Norway so much food is thrown every day, you just can´t imagine. So why not just bring all this food to refugees that are struggling to survive. Tonight I filled my car with food from a local dumpster and I was delivering it around to my friends and refugees. I was missing only few reindeers to become a proper Santa, but my red car did a good job too :)

There was even a few bags for me left :)
